WestJet (WS) resumes Calgary (YYC) – Austin (AUS) service, restoring a Canada–Texas air link
WestJet has officially resumed nonstop service between Calgary and Austin, marking the return of a notable connection between Western Canada and the creative capital of Texas. The relaunch not only adds a convenient travel option for passengers in both directions, but also provides fresh momentum for business, technology and leisure traffic between two high-potential markets.
The restoration of this nonstop route carries clear significance within WestJet’s broader cross-border network recovery and expansion strategy. Calgary serves as Alberta’s dynamic economic gateway and an important hub for Western Canada and the Rocky Mountain region, while Austin stands out as a fast-growing center for technology, music and innovation. Linked by nonstop air service, the two cities form a high-value air bridge that shortens journey times and strengthens appeal for both corporate and leisure demand.
In the initial phase, the route is being operated at a frequency of one to two roundtrips per week, before settling into a regular schedule of two weekly roundtrips. WestJet is deploying Boeing 737-700 and 737-800 aircraft depending on the day of operation, reflecting a flexible approach to matching capacity with market demand during the reopening phase.
Calgary is distinguished by its modern skyline, signature cowboy spirit and role as the gateway to the majestic Rockies. From the city, travelers can easily reach Banff National Park, part of the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognized for its mountains, glaciers and turquoise lakes of outstanding universal natural value. Calgary also draws visitors with the Calgary Stampede, contemporary museums and an energetic outdoor lifestyle.
Austin captivates visitors with its compelling blend of tech-driven dynamism, university culture and vibrant live-music scene. The city is known for its live performance venues, distinctly Texan culinary offerings and youthful, creative atmosphere. From Austin, itineraries can also extend to San Antonio, where the San Antonio Missions—including The Alamo and four other mission churches—are inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, reflecting the distinctive layers of colonial history in the southern United States.
