LATAM Airlines (LA) to Resume Rio de Janeiro (GIG) - Buenos Aires (AEP) Service
LATAM Airlines will officially resume service between Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires on 1 May 2026, restoring an important air link after more than two years of suspension since the route was last operated on 29 February 2024. The relaunch not only adds a convenient travel option between two of South America’s largest cities, but also sends a clear signal of the continued recovery in regional travel demand.
This route carries strong relevance for both business and leisure traffic. Rio de Janeiro is a global symbol of Brazilian tourism, while Buenos Aires stands as one of Argentina’s leading centers of culture, creativity, and commerce. The reinstated nonstop service shortens journey times and strengthens LATAM’s competitive position against carriers already active in the market, including JetSMART, Gol, Flybondi, and Aerolíneas Argentinas. For LATAM Airlines, the route also reinforces an increasingly integrated South American network, expands seamless connecting opportunities across the airline’s broad destination system, and supports two-way passenger flows between Brazil and Argentina.
In the initial phase, the airline will operate the route daily using Airbus A320 aircraft. This deployment reflects a flexible approach aligned with stable year-round demand on a short-haul market with meaningful growth potential.
Rio de Janeiro captivates visitors with its blend of blue coastline, dramatic mountains, and vibrant urban energy. The city is home to the Carioca Landscapes between the Mountain and the Sea, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where nature and urban life combine in a rare setting marked by icons such as Corcovado Mountain and Guanabara Bay. From its world-famous beaches to its high-energy samba culture, Rio consistently offers an experience that is both open-spirited and deeply rooted in Brazilian identity.
Buenos Aires appeals through its distinctly European character in the heart of South America, elegant boulevards, classic cafés, and a richly layered artistic life. The city is the cradle of tango, where each neighborhood preserves its own cultural memory, from the historic charm of San Telmo to the modern rhythm of Puerto Madero. It also serves as an ideal gateway to explore the depth of Argentina’s history, cuisine, and uniquely creative spirit.
