Eurowings (EW) officially launches Berlin (BER) - Sarajevo (SJJ) route
Eurowings has officially inaugurated its new nonstop service between Berlin and Sarajevo, adding a new air link between the German capital and the historical and cultural heart of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The route significantly shortens travel time for passengers while strengthening direct connectivity between two high-potential markets in Central Europe and the Balkans.
The launch marks a notable strategic step in Eurowings’ expansion of its destination network from Berlin, a creative and dynamic metropolis with strong demand across leisure, visiting friends and relatives, and business travel segments. Sarajevo, in turn, offers distinct appeal as a cultural gateway to the Balkans, where Ottoman heritage, Austro-Hungarian influences, and contemporary urban life converge. With no direct competitor currently operating the city pair, the new route offers a clear advantage in terms of travel time, convenience, and its ability to stimulate two-way traffic, from leisure demand to community links.
Eurowings is operating the route with one weekly round trip using the Airbus A320. This lean and efficient operating profile indicates the airline is testing market demand with a highly competitive nonstop product while establishing a platform for future growth.
Berlin is a city shaped by layers of history and a constant pulse of creative energy. From the Brandenburg Gate and Museum Island to boulevards filled with contemporary art, the German capital continues to attract visitors through its blend of cultural depth and modern urban life. Nearby, the Palaces and Parks of Potsdam, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, stand out for their regal architecture and landscapes that reflect centuries of European refinement.
Sarajevo captivates visitors with its old-world charm, stone-paved streets, and a rare East-West cultural fusion within Europe. The city invites exploration from the Ottoman-era Baščaršija bazaar to religious landmarks standing side by side as symbols of its multicultural history. From Sarajevo, travelers can also easily reach Mostar and the surrounding region, where the Old Bridge of Stari Most, recognized by UNESCO for its architectural significance and message of reconciliation, remains an enduring symbol of memory, identity, and Balkan resilience.
