IndiGo (6E) launches Cochin (COK) - Sharjah (SHJ) service

IndiGo has officially launched nonstop round-trip service between Cochin and Sharjah, adding an important new air link between southern India and the United Arab Emirates. The new route not only expands travel options for passengers, but also marks a notable step in the carrier’s growth within a high-demand corridor for trade and visiting friends and relatives (VFR) traffic.

The significance of this service extends well beyond a simple point-to-point connection. Cochin is a dynamic gateway to the state of Kerala, where maritime commerce, technology and tourism converge around its tranquil backwaters and distinctive Malabar heritage. At the other end, Sharjah serves as a major cultural, industrial and logistics hub in the Gulf. With a nonstop link now in place, the two cities are better positioned to stimulate labor mobility, trade, tourism and the already robust VFR segment. Air Arabia is also active in this market, but IndiGo’s entry adds competitive depth and broadens customer choice within the airline’s regional network.

The route is operated daily with the Airbus A320neo, providing a consistent seven-day-a-week connection at both ends of the market. Deployment of a new-generation narrowbody also underscores the airline’s focus on operational efficiency on medium-haul sectors with steady demand.

Cochin stands out for its blend of modern port-city energy and the deep historical character of the Malabar Coast. From here, travelers can easily explore Kerala’s lush backwaters, where boats glide past fishing villages, coconut groves and the river-based way of life that defines southern India.
