Technical Issue DetailsDuring a circling visual approach to Newark's runway 29, the aircraft flew abnormally low on final approach. While crossing over the Interstate 95 highway, its landing gear and underbelly contacted a highway light pole and the trailer of a bakery delivery truck.
Outcome / HandlingDespite the contact, the flight crew completed the landing on runway 29 without further incident and taxied to the apron. There were no injuries on board the aircraft. The truck driver sustained minor injuries, and both the truck and the aircraft suffered substantial structural damage.
Current StatusThe National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) classified the occurrence as an accident due to the extent of the damage to the aircraft and dispatched investigators to interview the flight crew. The FAA confirmed one minor injury on the ground.
