Technical Issue DetailsWhile cruising at FL380, about 300nm north-northwest of Almaty, Kazakhstan, the first officer suffered a sudden medical emergency. Three doctors on board provided assistance and recommended an immediate diversion. The captain initiated the diversion to Almaty.
Outcome / HandlingThe aircraft made a safe landing on Almaty's runway 05R approximately one hour later. The first officer was immediately transported to a local hospital.
Current StatusAlthough two additional pilots were on board, aviation regulations prohibited continuing the flight without a replacement pilot. The airline arranged for a replacement pilot to be flown to Almaty. After the crew takes their mandatory rest, the flight is scheduled to resume on Friday, May 8th, at 01:45 local time, arriving in Zurich at 06:30.
