Technical Issue Details
•A Delta Air Lines Airbus A330-900 (N429DX) performing flight DL59 from London Heathrow to Boston with 275 occupants on board was cruising at FL360 over the Atlantic Ocean when the crew encountered a technical problem with one of the Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines.
•The flight crew decided to reduce the affected engine's thrust to idle and initiated an emergency diversion.
•As a consequence of the engine throttling, the aircraft drifted down to a lower altitude of FL220 during its return leg.
