Technical Issue DetailsOn May 2, 2026, Delta Air Lines flight DL59 (an Airbus A330-900, registration N429DX) was operating from London Heathrow to Boston with 275 passengers and crew on board. While cruising at FL360 over the Atlantic Ocean, approximately 250 nautical miles westsouthwest of Shannon, the aircraft suffered a malfunction with one of its Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines. In response, the flight crew throttled the affected engine back to idle and initiated a diversion. During the turnback, the aircraft descended to FL220.
Outcome / HandlingThe Airbus A330neo flew to Dublin, performing a safe landing on runway 10L approximately 65 minutes after reversing course. Emergency response personnel inspected the aircraft on the runway before it taxied to the ramp. The remainder of the transatlantic flight was subsequently cancelled.
Current StatusThe flight was cancelled, and passengers were rebooked on alternative flights.
