Technical Issue Details
A Binter Canarias ATR 72-600 (EC-MSJ) performing flight NT607 from La Palma (SPC) to Tenerife Norte (TFN) was landing on runway 30.
A pin component from the nose gear steering mechanism (located on the intermediate torsion bar of the nose gear strut) was lost during the landing roll.
The loss of the steering component caused both nose gear tyres to burst on the runway.
Outcome / Handling
The aircraft rolled out and came to a safe stop.
No injuries were reported among the passengers and crew.
The aircraft was grounded for technical inspections.
Current Status
The Civil Aviation Accident and Incident Investigation Commission of Spain (CIAIAC) conducted an investigation into the incident.
The final report determined that the nut on the steering component gradually loosened over time because a lock washer was missing or not installed.
