IndiGo officially launches nonstop Cochin–Sharjah service
IndiGo has officially launched a new route linking Cochin and Sharjah, adding another important connection between southern India and the United Arab Emirates. The new service immediately expands travel options for passengers visiting friends and relatives, migrant workers, business travelers and tourists, while further strengthening the airline’s presence in the Gulf region.
The launch of the Cochin–Sharjah route reflects IndiGo’s selective international expansion strategy, focused on markets with sustainable travel demand and large expatriate communities. With Sharjah serving as a key gateway in the UAE and Cochin ranking among Kerala’s principal aviation hubs, the route is expected to provide fresh momentum for bilateral trade and enhance regional connectivity. On this sector, IndiGo will compete directly with Air Arabia.
IndiGo operates the route daily with the Airbus A321neo, providing stable capacity aligned with year-round market demand.
Cochin, Kerala’s historic port city, is known for its lush backwaters, the iconic Chinese fishing nets at Fort Kochi and a maritime trading legacy that stretches back centuries. It also serves as an appealing gateway to the Malabar region’s culture, spice-rich cuisine and the tropical beauty of southern India.
At the other end of the route, Sharjah is widely recognized as the cultural capital of the UAE, home to museums, traditional souks and distinctive Islamic architecture. The city stands out for Al Qasba, its elegant Corniche waterfront and its position as a destination well suited to both family leisure travel and business trips across the Gulf.
