TUI Airways (BY) launches seasonal Cardiff (CWL) - Faro (FAO) service

TUI Airways has officially inaugurated its seasonal route between Cardiff and Faro, adding another direct air link from Wales to Portugal’s Algarve coast. The new service is designed not only to meet rising summer leisure demand, but also to significantly reduce travel time for passengers through a nonstop operation.

The route carries clear strategic value for both ends of the market. Cardiff serves as Wales’ principal air gateway, where outbound leisure demand remains strong during the peak season, while Faro stands as a flagship destination in southern Portugal, drawing sustained demand with its beaches, golf resorts and upscale holiday infrastructure. TUI Airways’ entry on this sector underscores its efforts to strengthen connectivity between a high-potential UK catchment area and one of Southern Europe’s leading resort capitals, while further reinforcing the carrier’s presence in the seasonal leisure segment.

During the initial phase of operations, the route is being served twice weekly. TUI Airways is deploying the Boeing 737-800, a familiar narrowbody type across Europe’s leisure networks, well suited to the flexibility and efficiency required on short- to medium-haul sectors.

Cardiff appeals to travelers through its blend of Welsh heritage and the youthful energy of a coastal city. From the history-rich Cardiff Castle to the revitalized Cardiff Bay district, with its growing mix of culture, dining and entertainment, the city offers a distinctive point of departure. From here, visitors can also easily explore the unspoiled landscapes of South Wales.

Faro serves as the gateway to the Algarve, a region renowned for its golden beaches, dramatic cliffs and near year-round sunshine.
