Technical Issue Details
A United Airlines Boeing 767-322ER (N652UA) performing flight UA920 from Chicago O'Hare (ORD) to London Heathrow (LHR) was cruising at FL350.
The flight crew received a low engine oil pressure warning (ENG LO PRESS) on the EICAS for the number 2 (right-hand) engine.
The crew performed the non-normal checklist and shut down the number 2 engine while approximately 170 nautical miles northwest of Halifax.
Outcome / Handling
The flight crew declared an emergency with Air Traffic Services (ATS) and coordinated a diversion to Halifax Airport (YHZ).
The aircraft landed safely at Halifax without further incident.
All passengers and crew members were safe, and no injuries were reported.
Current Status
Maintenance personnel inspected the number 2 engine and discovered metal debris on the accessory gearbox chip detector.
The affected engine was subsequently replaced.
The incident is being investigated by the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB).
