•The incident occurred on flight AA194 bound for London Heathrow (LHR).
•The crew was unable to restart the engine and declared a "Mayday" emergency, halting the climb at FL072.
Outcome / Handling
•The pilots decided to return to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) without dumping fuel, leading to an overweight landing.
•The aircraft landed safely on runway 26 approximately 35 minutes after takeoff.
•Because of the overweight landing, the landing gear and brakes became extremely hot, requiring the aircraft to remain on the taxiway for cooling.
•No injuries were reported among the 283 passengers and crew members.
Current Status
•The aircraft was taken out of service for safety inspections and repairs.
•Passengers were rebooked on a replacement flight operated by Boeing 777-200ER (N778AN), which departed with a delay of approximately 21 hours.
