WestJet officially launches Calgary–Campbell River route

WestJet has officially launched its new route linking Calgary and Campbell River, adding an important air gateway between Alberta’s prairie region and the Vancouver Island coast of British Columbia. The new service not only provides travelers with a convenient additional travel option, but also strengthens tourism, visiting friends and relatives, and commercial ties between two high-potential markets.

The addition of Campbell River to the network marks a strategic step in WestJet’s domestic expansion, particularly across leisure destinations and regional communities that require reliable connectivity to the Calgary hub. As one of Western Canada’s largest aviation gateways, Calgary gives passengers from Campbell River more seamless access to the airline’s broader network across Canada and beyond.

At launch, the route is being operated several times per week with the De Havilland Canada Dash 8-400, a type well suited to the characteristics of the regional market and peak summer seasonal demand.

Calgary is Alberta’s dynamic economic centre, known for the Calgary Tower, Heritage Park and the Calgary Stampede, which reflects the distinctive spirit of Canada’s western frontier. The city also serves as a familiar gateway to the Rocky Mountains, making it attractive to both business travelers and leisure visitors.

Campbell River, meanwhile, is known as the “Salmon Capital of the World,” located on the east coast of Vancouver Island amid the signature sea-and-mountain scenery of Canada’s West Coast. From here, visitors can easily explore Discovery Passage, go whale watching, kayak, and access the pristine natural landscapes that define the region’s appeal.
